Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston

Before -- In the late 1990s, an "energy efficiency" company approached the Archdiocese of Boston and said they could save a lot of energy and money by installing compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps.  This completely washed out any definition of the beautiful architectural details!

After -- My new lighting scheme highlighted all of the architectural details. That includes the beautiful wood ceiling which is 100' above the floor of the nave, as well as gilded angels at the intersection of the nave and transept.

Track heads were positioned directly above and below (and in front of) the column capitals at a height of 30' AFF.  Very careful aiming was required to evenly light the wood ceiling at 100' AFF.

Gilded angels at the intersection of the nave and transept are now highlighted.  Track heads shown beyond (along the beam) light the baptismal font and other elements of the altar below.
